Happy World Emoji Day! 2022 Highlights Include the Approval of Emoji 15.0 and a Look Ahead to Candidates for 2023

Teenagers love emojis. They love them so much that the Oxford English Dictionary named “emoji” their 2015 Word of the Year. Social media is full of content that would be boring without the addition of a few carefully selected smiley face icons, and World Emoji Day is the perfect time to celebrate this ubiquitous form of communication. Emojipedia’s annual celebration of all things emoji is now in its ninth year, and here’s a quick rundown of what’s been happening as part of the 2022 celebration! Emoji 15.0 is due for approval this September, and what better time than World Emoji Day to look ahead to the final candidates and get a feel for what might be on phones in 2022-2023. From expressions of joy to looks of confusion, there’s an emoji for every emotion and situation. So whether you’re using them to spice up your social media posts or add some personality to your text messages, make sure to use your favourite emoji today! 🌎📅🥳

Emoji 15.0 is the Emoji Standard due to be approved this September, which will include Emoji 13.0 candidates such as boba tea, feather, and tamale. Emoji 14.0 was approved in January 2022 with Emoji 13.0 support, and Emoji 12.0 support was added to Emoji 13.0 in March. Emoji 11.0 support was added in Emoji 12.0 with the release of Unicode 12.

The Emoji 5.0 release will be available for download in September, and it will include a total of 293 new emojis. The following are some of the candidates that have been submitted for approval: A Shaking Face, two pushing hands, and a plain Pink Heart. This September, Emojipedia produced prototype designs for each potential Emoji 13.0 candidate based on the shapes and colours approved by the Unicode Consortium. Emoji 13.0 is due to be released in mid-2022, with Emoji 12.0 support being added in Emoji 13.0. Although some may not pass muster, most have previously been confirmed.

Emojis, including the Shaking Face and Pink Heart, are among the new additions to the Emoji 15.0 draft list, accompanied by a Light Blue Heart, Grey Heart, Donkey, Jellyfish, Hair Pick, and Khanda - the Sikh faith's symbol. The Emojipedia Sample Images displayed above are only one.

Actual vendor designs will vary from those released by large vendors, and Emojipedia's example pictures may be updated when version 15.0 is released.

However, most previous draft emoji candidates have recently been included on the final list, including every emoji we previewed ahead of World Emoji Day 2021.
